Referral Service – Chicagoland DME Provider

Miomed takes the administrative work out of the hands of the medical office staff and provides products/services  for pre, post, and non-operative stages of the patient care continuum. Our Patient Care Coordinators (PCC) work with physicians’ offices and insurance carriers to ensure that patient’s health needs are met and that each patient has the highest satisfaction with their product or service that Miomed provides.

A typical timeline is:

  1. Miomed’s office receives a referral for a patient from physician’s office.
  2. PCC contacts patient’s insurance to obtain benefit/eligibility information as well as process any prior authorization required for the product(s).
  3. PCC contacts patient to discuss their insurance coverage, estimated bill, and any out-of-pocket costs that might apply.
  4. Once patient accepts to receive the product, a Miomed’s Service Technician is scheduled to visit the patient to deliver, teach, and/or fit the product according to the physician’s orders.
  5. Upon receiving documentation of delivery, claim is sent to our billing department processing with insurance and the patient.

DVT Prevention Program

Orthopedic Solutions for Intra-Op and Post-Op Patient Care Continuum

What is Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)?

DVT is a blood clot that forms in the deep veins, usually in the lower legs.  Some people are at a higher risk of developing a DVT than others,
including: those that smoke, take hormone replacement therapy and those that have had a recent operation.  Signs of DVT are redness, pain and swelling of the affected limb. However, there can often times be no symptoms at all.

The most life threatening complication of a DVT is a Pulmonary Embolism or PE. PE’s occur when the clot moves up through the venous system and
lodges in the lungs. PE’s are one of the leading causes of death in the U.S.; more deaths annually than Breast Cancer, Highway Fatalities, and AIDS combined.

DVT is a major economic burden on the healthcare system and the MioMed DVT Programs are designed to reduce the chances of DVT during or after surgery as well as reduce hospital readmission caused by DVT.

MioMed is a local Chicago DME provider servicing the Chicagoland, Illinois and Northwest Indiana hospitals, surgery centers, and physicians. The MioMed DVT Program has no geographic limit and can be implemented Nationally.

MioMed DVT Prevention Program – In Facility

The In Facility program works like a Consignment, we provide DVT pumps and sleeves to the hospital or surgery center to use on patients during surgery. A MioMed representative stocks, reorders, and manages the inventory levels of sleeves and DVT pumps at the facility.

MioMed DVT Prevention – Take Home

The Take Home program provides patients at high risk for DVT after surgery with a light weight portable unit to be used 14-21 days after surgery. The MioMed Take Home units are provided at the surgery center and taken home with the patient. When the patient is finished with the prescribed use, the unit is easily returned to MioMed with a pre-paid shipping label. MioMed receives the unit, calibrates, and returns to the facility for use with another patient.

Key Features of MioMed’s DVT Prevention Programs:

  • Improved patient outcomes
  • Increased clinical efficiency
  • Reduced readmission risk
  • Inventory cost savings
  • Increased level of patient satisfaction
